I.                   Purpose

 

To provide all Tarry House, Inc. staff, and volunteers with guidelines for maintaining personal and resident safety when providing services away from the office.

 

II.                Policy

 

It is the policy of Tarry House, Inc. to promote a safe working environment for all staff, visitors, volunteers and persons served. To this end, it is the responsibility of all Tarry House staff and volunteers to follow all applicable safety rules, work rules, policies and procedures while on duty at or away from the office. All Tarry House, Inc. staff will be trained regarding potential safety risks involved in working in community settings. All agency vehicles used to transport clients will contain first aid supplies, an approved fire extinguisher, written procedures for handling emergencies and the agency vehicle’s proof of insurance.

The following guidelines and procedures will be followed by all staff and volunteers when providing out of office services to persons served.

      STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES

            A.  All Tarry House staff and volunteers must have a valid Ohio driver’s license or other form of                                                     picture identification on their person while working in the community.      

      B.  For safety purposes, staff and people served must remain at the approved community service site                       unless otherwise authorized by management.

      C. When in route to the community service site, staff must travel on main thoroughfares in order to                           improve their chances of getting assistance in cases of emergencies.

      D. All staff providing services in community settings must be trained in CPR, First Aid and handling

           psychiatric emergencies.

      E.  Staff will be provided with a means of calling for assistance in the event of an emergency while out                     in the community.

      F.  In the event of an emergency, staff is to call 911 for emergency assistance, then notify the Executive                  Director.

      G.  In the event of vehicle failure, staff is to call the Executive Director or designee who will arrange                          for alternate transportation.

      H.  Staff is to fill out the appropriate incident report upon return to the agency.
