I.                   Purpose

 

To provide for emergency medical treatment of one (1) or all residents, staff and volunteers from the main facility located at 564 Diagonal Rd., Akron, Ohio 44320 and the respite facility located at 4635 Manchester Rd., Akron, Ohio 44319 in the event of a medical emergency situation involving medical treatment other than minor first aid and possible evacuation of the main facility.

 

II.                Policy

 

It is the policy of Tarry House, Inc. to seek appropriate emergency medical treatment for all residents, staff and volunteers when necessary. For a medical emergency involving situations requiring more than basic first aid, EMS will be used to transport the injured person(s). For medical emergencies requiring the evacuation of the facility, the agency shall be responsible for providing transportation, temporary lodging and meals for all residents of the facility at the time the medical emergency situation occurs.  In the event evacuation becomes necessary, the Executive Director will call in any or all off duty staff to assist, at his discretion.

 

III.             Procedure  (for staff on duty at the time of emergency)

     1.  Assess the medical emergency

     2.  Notify the Emergency Response Team (EMS) and Police (if necessary).  Call 911.

     3.  Administer emergency first aid until paramedics arrive.      

     4.  Notify Executive Director

     5.  Complete a Major Unusual Incident Report (MUI)

 

In the event it becomes necessary to evacuate the facility due to a medical emergency, proceed with steps 5 through 9.

    6.  Executive Director to report to facility to assess the need for evacuation. If evacuation is

  necessary, off duty staff shall be required to report for work immediately, at the discretion of    

  the Executive Director. The American Red Cross will be notified.

   7.  The Executive Director or his/her designee will arrange emergency transportation for

   residents.

   8.  If possible, staff will collect current client records and medication to take to relocation site.

   9.  Transport residents to American Red Cross or other appropriately designated location.

 10.  Complete Major Incident Report within 24 hr. and notify all appropriate state and local

                     entities according to licensure standards.

 

Any and all contact or discussions with news media will be the responsibility of the Executive Director and/or the President of the Tarry House, Inc. Board of Trustees unless specifically delegated.
