I.
Purpose
To provide for emergency relocation of all residents, staff and volunteers from any Tarry House facility in the event of a natural disaster, bomb threat, hostage situation, extended loss of electrical power/heat, extensive fire damage, an explosion, gas leak, biochemical threat, acts of terrorism or any other emergency situation involving extended evacuation of any Tarry House facility.
II.
Policy
It is the policy of Tarry House, Inc. to provide temporary housing for its resident population in the event of a situation that requires evacuation for an extended period of time. The Agency shall be responsible for providing transportation, temporary lodging and meals for all residents of the facility at the time the emergency situation occurs. In the event evacuation become necessary, the Executive Director will call in any or all off-duty staff at his discretion.
III.
Procedure (for staff on duty at the time of
emergency)
1. Notify
Police and Fire Departments
2. Notify
the American Red Cross (501
3. Notify
Executive Director.
4. Executive Director to call in off-duty staff
to assist in relocation.
5. On duty staff to arrange emergency
transportation for residents.
6.
If possible, staff will collect resident records and medication to take
to relocation site.
7. Transport residents to American Red Cross, the Crisis Stabilization Unit, Haven of Rest, another
Tarry House, Site, or any of the CSS Group Homes, Resident’s Family Homes or other appropriate
locations.
8.
Complete Major Incident Report within 24 hr. and notify all appropriate
state and local
entities according to licensure standards.
Any and all contact or discussions with news media will be the responsibility of the Executive Director and/or the President of the Tarry House, Inc. Board of Trustees unless specifically delegated.
IV. PROCEDURE (for staff training and drills)
1. During orientation and
training, new staff will be trained on the Fire
Safety Policy and Medical
Emergency Policy, familiarized with the location of all fire extinguishers and all exits, including Emergency
exits.
2. On an annual basis, all
staff will be trained on Work Place
Violence Policy, Emergency Evacuation
Policy, Bomb Threat Policy
and Health and Safety Practices.
Documentation of all training is recorded on training records and maintained in the Administrative Office.
