I.                   Purpose

 

      To ensure the health and safety of staff and persons served, hazardous and/or

      infectious waste will be disposed of in an environmentally safe manner.  Hazardous

      waste includes, but is not limited to used needles, used razor blades, syringes, saliva,

      urine, feces, and blood waste products.

 

 

II.                Policy

 

It is the policy of Tarry House, Inc. to ensure the safe disposal of all infectious and hazardous waste materials in a manner approved by the EPA.

     

 

 

III.             Procedure

           

All personal waste containing body fluids, wound care bandages and dressings, disposable diapers, and feminine hygiene products, and used razors will be disposed of in plastic lined trash cans, then placed in the onsite dumpster (approved by the EPA licensed trash removal contractor ) and ultimately transported by a licensed contractor.  Should any of the above mention items be soaked with body fluids to the point that the fluid would ooze, run or drip, bio-hazard bags must be used to dispose of these items.  Care should be taken that persons removing infectious or hazardous trash must wear protective gloves.  Sharps, needles, and syringes with needles attached will be disposed of the in a biohazard container by administering health care technician.
