I.                   Purpose

 

Surveillance cameras are utilized at the Tarry House and Tarry House Respite sites for the safety and security of staff and residents.  Surveillance cameras may also deter inappropriate behavior within the agency.

 

II.                Policy

 

It is the policy of Tarry House, Inc. to utilize surveillance cameras for the safety and security of all residents and staff.  The cameras are also utilized to deter inappropriate behavior.  To maintain privacy for all residents, the surveillance cameras are only in use in public areas and not in bathrooms or bedrooms.  A basic description of the use of the surveillance system is explained to all residents as part of the orientation process.  All residents are asked to sign off on paperwork (found  in the “Welcome to Tarry House Packet”) that indicates understanding of the surveillance camera policy and procedure as part of the orientation process.  This documentation is found in all resident’s clinical record. 

 

 

III.             Procedure

 

A.     At Tarry House, the surveillance camera monitoring equipment is maintained in the Business Office.  At Tarry House Respite, the surveillance camera monitoring equipment is maintained in the Program Manager’s Office.  The equipment shall be kept in a locked office.

B.     Only the Executive Director, Business Manager and Program Managers have access to the surveillance system. 

C.     The system does have the capability to record for up to 48 hours.  If and after tapes/DVD s are viewed, the tape/DVD s are used again. The only time tapes/DVD s will be kept, is during an investigation. 

D.    The tapes/DVD s, as well as the monitors, will only be viewed by the Executive Director and/or the Program Managers.  Others may also view the tapes/DVD s during an investigation as approved and facilitated by the Executive Director.

E.     As part of the admission procedure, all residents and or guardians will we be asked to review and sign off on the surveillance camera policy and procedure found within the “Welcome to Tarry House Packet”.  This document will be maintained in the resident’s clinical record.
