I.                   Purpose

 

The purpose of the Tarry House, Inc. Non-Discrimination Policy is to establish rules of behavior for specific situations and to give the Tarry House Board of Trustees, staff, volunteers and student interns a general guide for confronting discrimination issues in day-to-day business activities.  The agency complies with the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended; the Age Discrimination Act of 1975, and the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 181.  Further, the Non-Discrimination policy endeavors to establish and maintain the highest degree of dignity and respect for applicants, employees and persons served.

 

II.                Policy

 

It is the policy of Tarry House, Inc. to hire, promote and retain all staffs, volunteers and student interns without regard to race, religion, sexual preference, national origin, disability, gender, sexual orientation or age.  The applicant’s/employee’s training, demonstrated ability, physical stamina, interpersonal skills and qualifications are the only considerations for employment.  It is also the policy to admit and treat all persons without regard to race, color, national origin, handicap or age.  The same requirements are applied to all, and people are accepted for services as bed space becomes available.  There is no distinction in eligibility for, or in the manner of, providing recovery services.

                  

III.             Procedure

 

The appointed coordinator for Civil Rights (CRC) education, investigation and reporting is the

Executive Director.  He/she shall maintain all files, copies of laws, complaints, and resolutions in the business office.  All complaints will be handled per the Tarry House Civil Rights Grievance Policy and Procedure.
