I.                   Purpose

 

It is the intent of Tarry House, Inc. to employ staffs who are trustworthy and accountable around medications that are securely stored as part of Tarry House Recovery Home’s medication monitoring policy for those served and medications that are stored and secured by persons served in locked storage units provided by Tarry House Respite.

 

II.                Policy

 

At no time will an employee remove medications from a Tarry House Site without good reason and permission from the employee’s supervisor.  Examples of good reason are, but not limited to; bringing medication to Community Support Services’ Medical Clinic or bringing medication to Portage Path Emergency Services (PPES) for a person who requires a voluntary stay in PPES’s Crisis Stabilization Unit. 

 

An employee with knowledge of drug theft by another employee shall report such information to their immediate supervisor immediately who will contact the Executive Director.  The Executive Director or designee will begin an investigation and may contact law enforcement authorities should it be deemed necessary.  If the Executive Director is suspected of drug theft, the employee shall furnish such information to the President of the Board of Trustees. 

 

Failure to report information of suspected drug theft shall be grounds for disciplinary action.

 

Tarry House, Inc. will take all reasonable steps to protect the confidentiality of the information and the identity of the person furnishing the information.

 

Any employee suspected of drug theft will be placed on leave while a formal investigation is conducted by the Executive Director.  Disciplinary action may result in suspension without pay and/or termination of employment with Tarry House, Inc.
