I.                   Purpose

 

Tarry House, Inc. welcomes and encourages interested persons to volunteer their time and energies on behalf of the organization and its clients

II.                Policy

 

It is the policy of Tarry House, Inc. to utilize qualified volunteers to enhance the opportunities and learning experiences for clients in the residential treatment program Tarry House, Inc. is an equal opportunity recruiter of volunteers and does not discriminate according to our personnel guidelines.

 

 

III.             Procedure

 

1.0        Tarry House develops written policies and procedures, which are updated annually and are available to all employees and volunteers.

 

2.0        Actively recruit program volunteers through direct appeal to community groups, church groups, students and other agencies.

 

3.0        Incoming volunteer applications will be forwarded to program staff for interviews before the Executive Director makes an assignment.

 

4.0        Maintain job descriptions for all volunteer assignments and updates as needed. (Job descriptions and include time required, skills needed, and duties to be performed and supervised.)

 

5.0        Orient volunteers prior to scheduling activities with residents.  The comprehensive orientation is to include: 1) overview of services, rules, policies and organization, 2) education regarding the client population, 3) client patient rights and confidentiality, 4) responsibilities of the agency to volunteers, and 5) the Agency’s code of ethics.

 

6.0        Maintains volunteer records.  Records include application, job description, hours served,    

           dates of training, evaluations, and certificates of recognition.

 

7.0        Communicates with community organizations and individuals regarding volunteer needs for

            the agency.

 

8.0       Convicted felons are not eligible to volunteer.
