I.
Purpose
To establish a procedure to allow
Tarry House, Inc. staff members the opportunity to apply for vacant staff positions
before Tarry House initiates an external search for candidates.
II.
Policy
It is the policy of Tarry House,
Inc. to allow employees an opportunity to apply for vacant staff positions
prior to an outside search, providing the employee is in good standing and
meets the minimum qualifications.
III.
Procedure
A. Supervisors
and/or managers will let the Executive Director know when a vacant staff position
is imminent.
B. The
Executive Director or designee will provide the supervisor and/or manager the
“Job Opportunity Cover Page,” the position’s job description and the essential
qualifications for review.
C. Once
the Job Opportunity “posting” has been reviewed and updated as needed by the
appropriate manager and or supervisor, the job will be posted in areas where
all staff may review.
D. The
position will be posted for 7 calendar days.
The date the Job Opportunity Posting will expire will appear on the
posting. Staff members who are
interested and meet the minimum qualifications may apply by completing the Job
Opportunity Interest Form and submitting this form to the Executive
Director. Staff members who are on
medical leave, and who meet the minimum requirements of the position, will be
notified of the opening via the telephone.
If the staff member on leave is interested, the supervisor will complete
the Job Opportunity Interest Form on behalf of the staff member on leave. If a staff member meeting the minimum
requirements is on vacation, that staff member will be informed of the vacant
position as soon as he/she returns. If
the posting has expired, the staff member will still be eligible to apply by
completing the Job Opportunity Interest Form within 2 business days from the
staff member’s first day back from vacation.
E. Any
staff that is currently under written progressive discipline will not be eligible
to apply for a vacant position. Staff
members who are still completing his/her probationary period are not eligible
to apply for vacant positions unless he/she receives prior approval from the
Executive Director.
F. Staff members who apply and meet the minimum qualifications will be interviewed, but are not guaranteed the position. Information such as attendance, punctuality, on-going display of good judgment, dependability, ability to work with others, and knowledge and proven skills in the position’s core competencies etc. will be taken into consideration. Staff members who are on medical leave, meet the minimum requirements, and are interested will be considered if the management team discerns that the position may remain vacant until the end of the leave.
G. Staff members who are offered and accept a new position will be placed on a 90 day probationary period. Those staff members who are not able to adequately perform the duties of the new position will be separated from employment. Separation of employment will be initiated by the staff member’s supervisor as outlined in the Progressive Discipline and Separation of Employment Policies.
